Bee Goes To Bed Alone

Japanese parents share a bed with their children.
My eldest daughter, Pon, goes to bed alone since she is already a teenager.
Bee had never slept alone and she usually went to bed with me hand in hand.

When On-chang, a Taiwanese girl, left our house to move
to a graduate dormitory, Bee declared that she would sleep alone
in her own room, which On-chang had used.

I thought that I would miss Bee but it was very pleasant.
I could read, write my blog, prepare lunch boxes and so on
when she slept by herself.

How comfortable this Western lifestyle was!

When Bee asked me what I thought about going to bed,
I replied both ways were good.

"Mom, which is better?
Me going to bed alone?
Or with you?
I don't mind which you choose."

"I think either is good, Bee."

Then Bee went very depressed.

"Mom doesn't love me anymore!"

"Oh! Honey, I love you so much!
I'd really love if you go to bed with me as usual!" I said.

Bee Misses On-chang

On-chang, a taiwanese graduate student,
left our house since she could get a dormitory.

She spent one year as a part of our family.

My eight-year-old daughter told me how she missed On-chang
when I came back home from work.

"Mom, my room is so empty now.
On-chang is gone and her stuff is gone, too.
I miss her so much."

"I cried for a while."

On-chang used to use Bee's bed room.

Bee used to say it was better that On-chang stayed in her room
instead of her because she loved On-chang so much.

"Mom, while I was crying, Pon was playing a game on her PSP,"
Bee continued and explained how she was thoughtful.

It was funny.

Today's Angel

I was writing an entry in my hospital journal
when Bee came over and tried incessantly to get my attention.

"And Mom, my friend was ..."

"Listen, Mom, I ..."

"Sing with me, Mom!"

I said at last,
"Hey, Bee, would you leave me alone for fifteen minutes?"

She replied in a small voice,
"OK, Mom! I'll set a kitchen timer."

I must have said it more gently since she didn't frown at all.

My Daughter Is Good At Playing The Piano

"Mom! Look at me!" Bee said.
"I can play the piano with my eyes close."

"Mom, look!
Look at me!"

She was very enthusiastic.
"I'm playing the piano blind!"

I thought it was funny that she was clenching her teeth.

Who Is The Kindest Girl?

"What are these?"

On-chan, a Taiwanese college student staying in my house,
asked me, picking the half-bitten cookies up.

"Uh, Pon left them for me because those cookies are so yummy.

She always shares something good and never keeps all to herself.
She is very kind," I answered.

Listening to me, Bee said.
"I have the same cookies and I'll give Mom the whole one.

So now you think I am the kindest girl, don't you?"

Well, who is the kindest?

My Daughter's Mystery

Pon told me one morning.

"Mom, it was a complete mystery.

Last night, I'd just fallen asleep when my iPhone rang.
For a moment I thought but it was my alarm clock.

I thought it must have been a dream, so I went back to sleep."
"No! You had to get up," I said.

We Love Perfume

My daughter told me,
"I like Perfume especially the girl who has the long hair."

I replied, "Oh, you do? Which?"
"Which?"
"There are two girls who have long hair in Perfume," I answered.
"I like the girl who has the longest hair because long hair is beautiful."
My daughter seemed like she didn't know the name of the member.

I told her who I liked, too.
"I like the girl who has bobbed hair the best.
She has a good figure, too."

She asked, "What is her name?"
"I don't know," I replied.

You don't need to know anything about someone to become a fan,
though it would be better if you did.

Cat Quiz

My youngest daughter, Bee, gave her sister
a quiz when she is having dinner.
"Well, Pon, what is a cat that has folded ears called?"

Pon answered, "Cute."

"Nope!

We call them Scottish Folds," Bee said.
"OK. What is a cat that has no hair at all called?" Bee continued.

Pon replied, "A poor cat?"

"Wroooong!

We call the cat a Sphinx," Bee said.

Bee asked for proper nouns,
but Pon didn't understand what was required of her.

Thank You, Grandma!

Early in the summer,
my mother-in-law gives her children boxes of cherries.

We got some this year, too.

While I was washing the cherries,
I asked my daughters to write text to their grandma.

My seven-year-old daughter wrote on my iPhone,

"Dear, Grandma.
Thanx for lots of cherries.
They are so yummy!
Send us lots of cherries from now on.
That's it!"

"Noooooooooooo!"
I noticed what my daughter wrote...

and that it was already sent to my mother-in-law.

I quickly made a phone call to my mother-in-law.

Mom, I Love You

"Mom, I love you so much!
I'll do anything for you,"

my eight-year-old girl suddenly said while she hugged me.

"What can I do for you now?"
she asked but I have no idea.

In a while, I said to her,
"I want you to prepare for school."

She replied unwillingly,
"Uh? Later."

She laid down on the floor and didn't even get up.
Didn't she say that she would do whatever anything for me?
Children are always fickle.

Smaller Two

My eldest daughter will be fifteen on the 23rd on March.
Teenagers always go to bed late, she goes to bed later than I do.
On the other hand, my youngest daughter, who is eight, starts feeling sleepy around nine.

One night, my eldest daughter asked me where her sister and our dog, Cocoa, were.

The smaller two went to sleep together.
Even tough Cocoa usually sleeps by our feet, I found that she used a pillow like a person that night.
It was very funny.
Does your dog use a pillow?
